I'll never forget the day David called me, frustrated and desperate for a CFO. The staffing firm was about to be sold, but their fractional CFO had just quit. With only three days until closing and a week until the private equity purchaser's quarter-end, cash flow was a major concern.

As I dug into their finances, I was puzzled. They had $2M in the bank, steady sales, and strong profit margins. So why the cash worry? That's when I learned the unique cash flow challenges of staffing firms: weekly payroll processing with payment terms stretching from 30 to 90 days.
